Sorry, this is here - the Children's Hospital blocks blogs; so here's the update...
Melisa has three surgeries today including a Mitrofanoff, ACE, and bladder sling. The mitrofanoff will allow her to self cath directly into her bladder, the ACE will allow her to have continence with her bowels, and the bladder sling will help with urine continence.
Surgery was at 11 at Children's-Minneapolis. We were told surgery was 7 hours, but surgeon said if everything went as he wanted it would be 3.5 hours. And it was! Praise God.
The paths they created for her bowels and bladder were able to both be created using her appendix (which is best case). She is very tired and in some pain, but only when she moves.
The hospital is taking good care of her.
With no problems and things move quickly we could be out in 5, but 7 is more like. But if something happens could be up to 12.
Please continue to keep her in your prayers as she heals and starts moving around in the next days.
Thanks for all the kind words and prayers so many have shared with us.
For those who have emailed or called asking what they could to help in this time - Melisa would love mail (my mom posted our address to send cards to her at); if you are in the TC food for Michael and I would be great (hospital foods is, well, hospital food and will get expensive); you are welcome to come visit and say hi, Melisa would enjoy that I would think by Saturday; and of course keep praying for her.
Love you all and thanks so much for your concern.
